Sustainability Reporting Awareness: Implementing IFRS S1 & S2 Standards workshop in Abuja

It was a privilege to sit alongside Ndidi, Dr. Nnoli-Edozien from the IFRS Foundation, PwC’s Marilyn Obaisa-Osula (Partner and Head of ESG, Sustainability and Climate Change), and other distinguished colleagues at the Sustainability Reporting Awareness: Implementing IFRS S1 & S2 Standards Workshop as we collectively examined how the financial services and energy sectors can move beyond rhetoric and towards credible, actionable sustainability practices.

The conversations were based on the pressing need to integrate sustainability into core business models, the importance of building investor confidence through transparent reporting, and the opportunity to align Nigerian industries with global standards that increasingly shape access to markets and capital.

As expected, the IFRS S1 and S2 standards are not without their complexities. They call for new mindsets, new capacities, and sometimes uncomfortable shifts in business culture. But they also offer clarity, structure, and a global framework for organisations serious about embedding sustainability into strategy and governance.

The IFRS S1 and S2 standards provide a pathway for organisations to strengthen resilience, earn trust, and remain globally competitive. The real task ahead is ensuring that these ideas move off the page and into practice—where they can truly shape the future of business and society.
